Software makes our lives easier and improves the speed and efficiency of our work. In research, it helps us analyze data, collaborate with our teammates, create complex diagrams and so much more.
Here are 8 essential lab software every scientist should know about:
Slack
It is one of the leading channel-based messaging platforms used primarily by small and medium-sized companies and has made inroads into research labs. Slack is useful for async collaboration among lab members with its instant messaging.
Prism
It is a versatile no-code tool designed for scientists to analyze data and create 2D graphs quickly. Prism offers an extensive library of statistical analyses such as t-tests, one-, two- and three-way ANOVA, linear and nonlinear regression, dose-response curves, principal component analysis, and much more that you can easily do on the platform
Fiji
It is an open-source scientific image analysis software and truly a hidden gem. Fiji allows users to easily view and edit scientific images while also offering some statistical analyses on them.
BioRender
It is a science illustration software widely used to design scientific figures, diagrams, and other illustrations using a scientifically accurate template library. BioRender makes it very easy for users to communicate their research while saving time, money and ensuring scientific accuracy.
Primer3
It is extensively used for designing PCR primers which are used in genetics and molecular biology. It can also design hybridization probes and sequencing primers. Primer3 comes with different input parameters that the user can control to design primers that suit their goals.
LabTwin
It is a voice-powered digital lab assistant designed for scientists to enable hands-free data capture and exchange with informatics systems at the point of experimentation.
Mendeley
It is an academic software for sharing and managing research papers. Mendeley indexes and organizes documents and research papers to create the user's digital bibliography.
Scispot
It is a no-code workflow automation platform designed for fast-growing life science companies. Bio companies use Scispot to manage & track their projects, samples, and inventory, all in one spot. Scispot combines the functionalities of LIMS (lab information management system) and ELN (electronic lab notebook) in one platform. The platform’s intuitive and user-friendly interface supports operational workflow automation from equipment maintenance, inventory consumption to report creation.
Since its official launch in April 2021, Scispot has become the digital operating platform of a wide range of life science companies that focus on lab-grown meat, biomanufacturing, biotherapeutics R&D, mass spectrometry research, preclinical studies, and microbiome research.

What’s a Rich Text element?
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
Static and dynamic content editing
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
How to customize formatting for each rich text
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
