How a CLIA-Certified Diagnostics Lab Unified Clinical Assay Operations

A U.S.-based diagnostics lab developing blood-based neurodegenerative tests achieved full traceability, auditability, and scalable execution across a multi-site sample lifecycle using Scispot.
Challenges
Limited visibility into sample chain of custody across multiple collection sites.
Manual reconciliation of instrument outputs, increasing error risk and limiting scalability.
Lack of a centralized, audit-ready system to support regulatory requirements.

Company Overview

A U.S.-based diagnostics lab developing blood-based tests for neurodegenerative conditions needed reliable chain-of-custody visibility from intake through reports. Operating on a model of multi-site collection and central processing, the lab required an infrastructure that could scale to support their clinical assay launch.

The Challenge

As the lab prepared to launch its clinical testing service, scientific readiness was ahead of operational infrastructure. Critical workflows were spread across disconnected tools, including an electronic lab notebook, a separate quality system, and spreadsheets used for tracking samples, QC, and reporting. There was no unified platform to manage the full lifecycle, resulting in limited chain-of-custody visibility, high error risk due to manual reconciliation, and a lack of audit-readiness to support regulatory requirements.

The Solution

The lab selected Scispot for its ability to unify ELN, LIMS, and QMS functionality into a single, easy-to-use platform. From the outset, Scispot enabled a fast, low-friction transition. All data—from sample metadata to instrument outputs—was consolidated into one system, bringing an end to manual reconciliation.

Adoption and Results

The transition from operational complexity to streamlined execution turned their infrastructure into a foundation for scale rather than a bottleneck.

  • Rapid Deployment: The lab went live in under three months without disruption.
  • High Efficiency: Increased internal efficiency allowed them to scale without additional headcount.
  • Ease of Use: Users adopted the platform quickly and were independently managing their workflows within weeks.
